Ocean Ambassadors

The motto of the Clearwater Marine Aquarium (now the home of Winter, the star of Dolphin Tale) is:

RESCUE - REHABILITATION - RELEASE

The people who work there are dedicated 'ambassadors of the ocean' - they work hard to restore and preserve the homes of sea animals, and to spread the word so that people around the world can do the same.

The fact that Winter is now a film star means that people all over the world will learn about what happened to her, and what they can do to stop it from happening to other dolphins or marine life.

Activity

Using Winter from Dolphin Tale as your figurehead, create a mini-campaign to spread the message of ocean environmental awareness to your friends and family. Drag and drop your chosen background and foreground images from those provided. Then, as an 'Ocean Ambassador', create a 'call to action' e-campaign that gives people information about what we can do to protect our marine environment.

Use these 'Top Ten Tips for a Healthier Ocean' as suggested by the people at Clearwater Marine Aquarium.

• Don't make a marine mess: beachside litter is dangerous to marine life.
• Bring a bucket and spade: when at the beach, use your bucket to make sandcastles, then at the end of the day put your rubbish in the empty bucket to take home with you.
• Respect the sand dunes and land surrounding the ocean. It's there to preserve the shore and to provide shelter for animals.
• Don't disturb the sea life - observe them from a distance, don't touch them.
• Too much fishing is bad for our oceans. If you fish, catch them in nets, then put them back in the ocean alive.
• Don't leave fishing lines behind, these can entangle marine animals and injure or kill them.
• At home, use less water. Turn taps off whilst brushing your teeth, have shorter showers and wash cars or water plants with recycled water.
• Recycle!
• Don't put harmful chemicals down the sink as they end up in our oceans.
• Spread the word: find out about the marine life near you by visiting marine parks or aquariums.
