Nine-year-old Abel returns home from a psychiatric facility where he was sent after he stopped speaking following his father’s sudden disappearance. When Abel starts to speak again it is part of an alarming reinvention as the patriarch of the household. Though the family initially accept Abel’s new role his father’s reappearance soon threatens this fragile family dynamic.
