Film Clips

The trailer for STAR TREK gives the audience information about the genre of the film and also introduces them to some of the characters from the film.

The trailer sets up a number of issues and conflicts – the idea of destiny, a day of reckoning and choices to be made. It also shows the characters interacting with each other, although very briefly.

Just before the release of any film the film’s distributor will release a number of approved clips from the film for use on television and online.

These clips will further enhance the idea of the film in the audiences’ minds and give us additional ideas about what we can expect from the film’s storyline.

Look at the three film clips in this section that the distributor, Paramount Pictures, has made available and consider how they fit in with the overall marketing campaign for the film.

Answer the questions in reference to each clip but then also consider the following questions in relation to the clips as a whole in comparison to the trailer.

  • Is it important that Kirk appears in all three clips? How does this link to the trailer and the poster campaign?
  • How is the atmosphere different in each of the clips?
