Obesity debate

As a nation, are we getting bigger? In 2007 the largest UK study into obesity, the Foresight project, predicted that 60% of men and 50% of women could be clinically obese by 2050.

Many millions of government money has been spent on healthy eating campaigns, but we don’t seem to be changing our eating habits. So what’s the problem? In this activity and the one that follows you are going to examine the many causes of obesity, and debate how this complex issue can best be tackled, and by whom.

Why eat junk food?

How many of you eat junk food at least once a week? With a partner, note three reasons why people continue to eat junk food even though they know it is bad for them. As a class list the top three reasons.
