Take action!

Has Food, Inc. opened your eyes to the less than appetising reality of the global food industry? If so, what are you going to do about it?

As a consumer, you can change things for the better simply by voting with your shopping basket. Try to find out how and where your food has been produced and choose local, organic and fair-trade options whenever possible, or even grow your own!

But how about taking more far-reaching action?

Raise awareness!

  • Share what you’ve learnt with other students by holding peer workshops, talking in assembly or recording a podcast for the school intranet.
  • Create an eco-friendly board game for children.
  • Set up a website or blog promoting the idea of healthy, sustainable food.
  • Organise a concert to raise awareness, mixing music and comedy with films and presentations.
  • Hold a school debate and invite expert speakers to participate.
  • Organise a community event for local producers or an organic farmers’ market.

Bring about change!

  • Lobby your local MP to raise concerns about the food industry in parliament.
  • Launch a Facebook campaign.
  • Promote the use of local, organic food in school through the school council.
  • Sign petitions – or start your own.
  • Make a campaign film.

These ideas are just a jumping-off point – there’s a huge range of things you can do to promote awareness and make a difference. The important thing is to have fun and be creative!

Until June 17th 2011, the A Team Foundation, the A Team Foundation, in partnership with the Soil Association, Dogwoof and Film Education, is running a competition to encourage students to take positive action on the issues raised by Food, Inc. By entering, you could win £1000 for your school.
