This section:

  • asks students to research a variety of sources of information about the film – from their local cinema to websites. What information is already available? How accurate is all of it? Why does information appear in the places that it does?

If promoting a film is all about awareness, then where can we find out about The Boat That Rocked?

Your task is to research all of the places where you might find information about the film.

Think firstly about your local cinema.  What can you see there which tells you that the film is coming?

Have you seen anything about the film in any film magazines that you might read?

What information is there on the internet?  You could start by looking at the official UK website for the film and visit Working Title's website to see what they say about the film.

You can see the poster and character images from the film on the Empire and Internet Movie Poster Awards websites. Why do you think that the film's distribution company think that this is a valuable place to display the materials?

However, you might need to dig deeper than this. As well as running a search for the film you cold also visit some of the “fan” websites for the major actors in the film. What do these sites have to say about The Boat That Rocked? What information or materials do they have and how accurate is it?
