Relationsips
Relationships are one of the most important aspects of Africa United. The film explores relationships between mother and son, brother and sister, and of course between friends.
Watch this clip, which is taken from early on in the children's journey. Having taken the wrong bus to the Rwandan capital Kigali for Fabrice's football trial, the children find themselves in a refugee camp in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
For discussion
- How would you describe the relationship between Fabrice, Dudu and Beatrice in this clip?
- How do the filmmakers create a sense of danger as Foreman George warns the children not to stay in the camp?
- How do you respond to Foreman George's warning that children will be taken to fight the war in the Congo? What, if anything, do you know about child soldiers around the world? Why do you think the filmmakers have included such a serious reference in a children's film?
