(Please allow up to 30 minutes for this download, depending on connection speed.)

Activities on the interactive CD-ROM are suitable for a film-based cross-curricular teaching and learning project for children between the ages of 5 and 11. They can be used in a large group setting, via an interactive whiteboard, networked on a suite of computers or for small group or individual work at the computer.

The resource is rich in resources about the life and times of the Vikings and these can be printed off for use in long-term research projects for History or Literacy. These are the curriculum areas which are addressed within each section:

A Guide to Dragon Training
Learners can design and build their own ‘Guide to Dragon Training' using information provided for them in a series of mini e-books.

A Day in the Life of a Viking Teenager
This activity asks learners to create a virtual diary for the main character in the film, a Viking teenager called Hiccup.

The Dragon's Lair
Children will use given information to work out how Vikings would have chosen their settlements.

Cressida Cowell: From Book to Film
This section of the CD-ROM takes pupils through the book to film adaptation process using interview footage with the author of the book on which the film is based, Cressida Cowell.

Exclusive Clip Analysis
The CD-ROM features exclusive dragon-training clips and in this section, children will ‘read' the clips through a sequence analysis question and answer activity.

Synopsis
How to Train Your Dragon is set in the mythical world of burly Vikings and wild dragons, based on the book by Cressida Cowell. The story centres around a Viking teenager, who lives on the Isle of Berk, where fighting dragons is a way of life. Initiation is coming and this is his one chance to prove his worthiness to his tribe and father. But when he encounters, and ultimately befriends, an injured dragon, his world is turned upside down.
