These materials explore Andrea Arnold’s film and the context of its adaptation from Emily Brontë’s novel, with educational activities suitable both for English Literature students and for students of Film and Media Studies at AS/A2 level and equivalent. The supporting Study Guide, available in PDF and Word format, offers a series of activities examining audience and reader expectations and the process of adaptation, whilst the clip activities offer close viewing tasks on three short scenes.

Film synopsis

A Yorkshire hill farmer on a visit to Liverpool finds a homeless boy on the streets. He takes him home to live as part of his family on the isolated Yorkshire moors where the boy forges an obsessive relationship with the farmer’s daughter.
