English and Media Centre training day

Event information

Film Education in conjunction with the English & Media Centre ran a highly successful one-day training event: Supporting Your GCSE Controlled Assessment Tasks with Film, Media and Multimodal Approaches.

This exciting collaboration between EMC and Film Education introduced a range of moving-image and multimodal approaches to enrich and inform students' experience. It looked at the ways Film, Media and Multimodal texts can support the study of Literary Heritage and poetry texts, creative writing, talking and spoken language study across all specifications, whatever spec or exam/controlled assessment combination delegates were offering.

Building on the combined expertise and resources of two leading agencies, the course demonstrated tried and tested strategies that will make the controlled assessment process manageable, meaningful and motivating for delegates and their students.

Date: Thursday 18th November 2010
Venue: English & Media Centre, London N1 2UN

This one-day conference explored:

  • Where and how multimodal approaches can be used
  • Ways of using trailers, short film and multimodal technologies to create engaging and memorable focuses for controlled assessment tasks
  • A focus on new approaches to Shakespeare, drawing on Film Education's new DVD resource Shakespeare on Screen
  • Practical hands-on classroom activities on poetry, writing and spoken language which can be adapted to your own spec and choice of texts
  • Resources and extracts to take back to your classroom

Our training events focus on giving teachers information and guidance on using film in education. Alongside the digital video training we offer nationwide, we also organise regional INSET days, which can help teachers with any level of experience get to grips with using film within the curriculum.
