A New Vision of Europe
About the Conference
A one-day conference on the role of European Cinema in Teaching & Education
Friday, March 19, 2010
9.30am – 4.30pm
BFI Southbank, Belvedere Road,
London SE1 8XT
This conference will bring together participants from the world of film, policy and education to explore how film can be used to create a deeper understanding of European culture in education. It will give teachers and other professionals involved in education the opportunity to exchange ideas with a range of experts and colleagues.
With the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall in November 2009, the new Europe is entering its third decade. It is now more important than ever that we come to a shared understanding of what it means to be European whilst respecting the rich tapestry of cultures, languages, religions and philosophical frameworks to which individual citizens belong.
This free one-day conference will explore:
- The place of European film within the school curriculum
- Pedagogical approaches to the use of film in education
- Case studies of using film within the curriculum
