Positive? Awareness of and attitudes to HIV

Positive? is an educational resource found at Film Education partnered the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) to develop the interactive website Positive? to raise awareness of HIV among young people, their teachers and lecturers.

Central to the resource are accounts from people living with HIV explaining the nature of HIV stigma, discrimination and treatment programmes.  Experts in the field outline the science of HIV transmission and prevention, its history and global scope and the social impact of the virus in terms of criminalization and global citizenship. Film assets and past HIV media campaigns are used to support and develop users knowledge and understanding.

Positive? provides teachers of PSHEE, sex and relationship education, science, citizenship and media studies with innovative and original ways into learning about HIV including a mobile app Positive Life  to raise awareness.

The website includes guidelines and strategies for teachers and educators to reflect on their own practice in their institutions as well as provide powerful material for the classroom.

There is a strong campaigning element, providing citizenship teachers with a comprehensive unit of work for this curriculum requirement.  Media assets such as film clips and past HIV awareness campaigns stimulate critical thinking as well as offering historical perspective.
