Francois Truffaut's first feature 400 Blows tells the story of Antoine Doinel, a fourteen-year-old Parisian. In the face of neglect at home and reform school he skips school and turns to petty crime. The character of Antoine appears in several subsequent Truffaut films and is somewhat autobiographical. A landmark film in the history of French cinema, 400 Blows was the first film to be associated with the French New Wave genre.
